Shahar Bergman Bass Guitars

Bergman Basses takes bass guitar craftsmanship to a new level. Starting with two distinct lines – the Fizz and the Joy – you can describe your dream instrument, starting with the sound and moving on to the type of wood, color of its finish and detailed accessory parts. The finished product is the marriage of art and practicality; a singular instrument that is breathtakingly beautiful and sounds even better.

Founded by Shachar Bergman, a bass player for nearly four decades and co-creator of Kandu Wood N Groove Percussion Instruments, Bergman Basses was created in response to a single challenge: to enable players to pick up a guitar for the first time, and feel like they’ve been playing it for their whole lives.

My story

I picked up my first electric bass when I was 16, and I’ve been playing ever since. As a highly trained woodworker, after a few decades of playing bass and building a business of handmade percussion instruments (Kandu Percussion), I decided to build myself a bass. I began exploring the world of bass building, to deepen my understanding and skills in the craft.

Soon after, I was approached by clients who wanted custom-made basses. This sent me on a journey to refine my ideas and capabilities, while experimenting with different wood combinations and electronics, which all led to the development of what I call the Green Song.

The Green Song

The whole idea of the Green Song is to find and use the right woods from the surrounding habitat and to add them to the already known and familiar bank of woods used in this whole territory. This of course is known from history, as the great Luthiers of the past used to go out to their backyard and look for the best wood to use for their next instrument. So, woods like Cedar, Cyprus, Red oak, Olive, Mulberry, Almond, and so on, are part of the Green Song, because they are here in nature, and proven to be musically fitting/compatible.
